How do I calculate payouts from my Print on Demand store?

What does Pietra charge me for a Print on Demand sale?

Updated over a week ago

Pietra calculates payouts for Print on Demand (POD) storefront orders on a weekly basis. Pietra pays out creators weekly on Mondays for all sales that occurred the prior week. Here’s how it works:

Understanding Your Order Breakdown

When a customer places an order through your Print on Demand storefront, the following fees and charges apply:

  • Order Value: This is the price you charge your customer—your sale price. You set this amount when creating your product.

  • Cost: This is the production cost Pietra charges you to manufacture the item.

  • Fulfillment Fee: This is the pick & pack fee Pietra charges for fulfilling each order:

    • $1.50 if you’re on a Free Plan or Essentials Plan

    • $1.15 if you’re on a Business Plan

  • Sales Fee: This is Pietra’s order processing fee for handling the payment. For Print on Demand order, the sales fee is equal to 5% of the Order Value.

  • Shipping Material Fee: Any costs related to packing materials. For POD items, this is typically $0.00.

Example Order Breakdown

Looking at the example below (3 orders of $19 each):

  • Total Order Value (customer pays): $57.00

  • Total Cost (production): $55.77

  • Total Fulfillment Fees: $4.50

  • Total Sales Fees: $2.85

  • Total Shipping Material Fees: $0.00

In this case, the creator is charged $6.12 because total costs exceeded total sales revenue.

How Payouts Work

  • Pietra pays out creators weekly on Mondays for all sales that occurred the prior week.

  • If your Order Value is higher than your Costs + Fees, Pietra sends you the difference as your payout.

  • If your Costs + Fees are higher than your Order Value, Pietra will issue you an invoice for the outstanding balance.

  • If your costs are consistently higher than your sales, consider raising your Order Value so that you can cover costs and turn a profit.

Important Notes

  • For online store sales (e.g., Shopify), you collect sales proceeds directly from your store. Pietra will then charge your card on file for production and fulfillment fees from the previous week.

  • Always check your margins before launching products. A small pricing adjustment can make the difference between losing money and building a profitable POD store.

  • You can edit your Order Value (customer price) anytime:
Go to Merch StorefrontPrint on Demand → Click the item ID → Scroll down to Preview of Variants.
