What it does
This Assistant helps you design a promotion or sales strategy for specific product SKUs (stock keeping units). If you have certain items you want to move (e.g., overstock, seasonal products, or a hero product you want to boost), the AI will come up with a targeted plan to sell through those units. Think of it as a sales strategist for particular products.
How it works
You identify the SKU or product and perhaps the goal (“We have 200 units of summer sandals left – need to clear by end of fall” or “This new SKU isn’t selling as expected, need a push”). The Assistant will:
Analyze the SKU’s performance data – It looks at sales velocity, inventory levels, and maybe why it’s slow (is it a sizing issue? Seasonality?). It might note, for instance, that “this sandal sells mostly in California, but we have a lot of stock in other regions unsold” – using sales data patterns
Determine the right promo type – Based on the margin and product type, it suggests a promotion: maybe a discount (like “30% off”), a bundle (“Buy sandals, get a free beach tote”), a different pricing strategy (“2 for 1 deal”), or even repositioning (“feature it as a limited edition item”). It chooses an approach that maximizes appeal while considering your profit.
Targeting and channels – It outlines who to target with this promotion. For example, “Send this promo to customers who viewed the sandal but didn’t buy (retargeting ad or email)” or “Feature it on homepage for visitors from cold-weather states to entice them for a vacation sale.” The Assistant knows how to segment the audience for maximum effect (e.g., loyalty customers vs new shoppers).
Timeline and urgency – It will set a timeframe (like a two-week flash sale) and incorporate urgency tactics if appropriate (“limited time offer, ends Sunday!”). It ensures the promotion has a clear start and end to drive action.
Measures success – It will mention how to measure if the promo worked (e.g., looking at SKU inventory levels after, or conversion rate on the promo offer) so you can evaluate the outcome.
Why it’s useful
Clearing inventory or boosting a specific product often requires a clever strategy; a blanket discount might not always be best. This Assistant tailors the solution to the product’s situation, potentially saving you from guesswork that could either leave money on the table or fail to sell stock. It saves time by quickly crunching data (sales figures, customer behavior) to inform the promotion. In small teams, this kind of analysis and planning might not get done at all due to bandwidth – the AI ensures even your tricky SKUs get attention with a smart plan. Ultimately, it can help free up cash tied in inventory or hit sales targets for that item.
Example use case
A fashion boutique has too many red scarves from last season. Instead of just slapping a 50% off tag randomly, they ask the Assistant. It sees that customers who bought the matching red hat didn’t buy the scarf. So it suggests a cross-promotion: email those customers a “Complete the Look” offer – get the scarf at 30% off since they bought the hat. It also suggests bundling the scarf on the site with a popular coat as a “Winter Set” with a small discount. The boutique owner implements these targeted promotions, and the scarves start moving, all while preserving more margin than a blanket half-off sale.
