Packaging Guidelines for Minimizing Damage and Breakage
Updated over a week ago

When working with any 3PL it is imperative to have clear and proper packaging guidelines in place to minimize breakage and damage. Pietra is committed to packing items according to your specified guidelines.

Before shipping your first orders, we encourage Creators to define packaging guidelines during the setup process. Below are some important guidelines and best practices to help you prepare your inventory for safe and secure shipping to your customers.

1. Define Packaging Instructions During the Setup Process

As part of the setup process with Pietra, you will define the packaging instructions for your orders. It’s important to be as detailed and prescriptive as possible when outlining these instructions. Consider the type of items, the packaging materials, and any special handling needs.

2. Special Handling for Fragile or Unique Items

Careful consideration of your packaging materials is crucial to avoid damage. Not every shipment is simple to pack and ship without risking breakage. Fragile items or those with special shapes may require additional attention, and you should set your packaging guidelines accordingly. This may mean specifying when custom padding should be used to ensure safe delivery, or purchasing custom padding to ensure fragile items are not damaged in transit.

3. Understand that Pietra packs according to your guidelines

While Pietra will be responsible for packing your items, we will strictly follow the packaging guidelines you provide. These guidelines are essential in minimizing the risk of damage during transit.

If detailed packaging guidelines are not provided, it may result in increased breakage or damage during transit. Take note of our standard packaging and packing materials here.

Please note: Pietra is not responsible for damages if your order was packed according to your packaging guidelines, or if your packaging guidelines are not sufficient to prevent damage during transit.

4. Reference external packaging guidelines

For additional best practices on packing, you can refer to carrier guides such as the UPS Packaging Guidelines. This guide offers in-depth advice for various packaging scenarios, helping to ensure your shipments arrive in perfect condition.
